The Ruta del Sol is part of the “Ruta del Spondylus” which crosses all the provinces of the Ecuadorian Coast from north to South. Also known as the Santa Elena Route-Manabí, it is a space where nature is integrated with culture and it is an area of great importance for tourism in the coastal strip of Ecuador. The Ruta del Sol is approximately 115 km/71.5 miles long, stretching from the province of Santa Elena to the south of the Province of Manabí. If you visit, let us show you some places:
Montañita
The town of Montañita is known for its incredible big waves. Surfers from all over the world come to this beach. It is also known for its vibrant nightlife and hippie lifestyle. About 15 km south of Montañita you can go paragliding. Additionally, it is a small town with several craft shops and restaurants. Its streets are usually full of tourists. It is considered a cheap place to party and stay, although prices are rising due to the country’s economy and the amount of tourism it receives. We recommend staying in Olón, a neighboring city, and at night going to Montañita to celebrate. You can even walk as it is less than 4 km away, sometimes it is even cheaper to stay in Olón.
Olón
Olón is located in front of the Pacific Ocean on the Ruta del Spondylus (formerly known as Ruta del Sol), a 5-minute drive from Montañita and 2 hours, 20 minutes from Guayaquil. It has 3 km of beach, a secondary garúa forest of 5,780 hectares and an average temperature of 24°C. This commune has much more to offer than just sun and beach.
Olón has become a gastronomic hub with more than 50 restaurants. In a short walk you can find fresh seafood, Indian, Thai and Mexican food. You will be amazed by ice cream from another planet and you can delight in heavenly churros just a few steps away.
The small town of Olón is our favorite place in the province of Santa Elena. We loved its clean and quiet beaches, as well as the relaxing life it has compared to its neighboring town, Montañita, it is so close to it that you could enjoy both at the same time. Be sure to visit the Mirador next to the Church of the Virgen Rosa Mistica.

Salinas is considered one of the most important resorts in Ecuador. In this coastal destination, it is unmissable to enjoy a walk along the bay, on a panoramic tour aboard tourist boats that depart from the dock located on San Lorenzo beach. The tour allows you to recreate in the calm blue waters of this spa, admire the birds and be surprised by the tall buildings that can be seen from the sea. La Chocolatera, an impressive cliff, has become one of the main tourist sites, bringing together all the charms that characterize Salinas: nature, beautiful beaches, history and adventure.

The Galápagos Islands constitute an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean located 972 km off the coast of Ecuador. It is made up of 13 large and medium-sized islands distributed around the Earth’s equator.
The islands were declared a World Heritage Site in 1978, and ecological tourism has been developed in order to preserve the species.
Galápagos is known for its numerous endemic species and for Charles Darwin’s studies that led him to establish his theory of evolution by natural selection. They are called The Enchanted Islands, a name that the archipelago earned in the 16th century for its great biodiversity of flora and fauna, inheriting the name for generations. The region was the habitat of Lonesome George, the last specimen of the giant Pinta turtle breed, which became extinct on June 24, 2012. The islands are also the habitat of species such as sea turtles, iguanas, lizards, cormorants, albatrosses, sea lions and penguins. Galápagos constitutes a province of Ecuador, made up of three cantons, which in turn are visited islands, San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz and Isabela.
